In
John 4, the disciples were with Jesus and asked him to eat something. Jesus responded by saying that he had meat that they
didn't know about. The disciples were focused on physical needs; Jesus took the opportunity to turn their gaze to the
spiritual needs at hand. Jesus pointed out the urgency of the moment. He notified them that they couldn't say that they
had some time, because the fields were ripe and ready to be picked.
Children need refocusing at times to look at the spiritual rather than the physical. We all need to be reminded that we are
just pilgrims passing through this earth and that heaven is the city we are striving to reach. We need to be reminded
to lay up treasures for heaven, work for the kingdom of heaven, and not be so tied up with the things of this world. We must
focus on the souls of others just as Jesus looked out and saw sheep without a shepherd.
